Barracks Housing, Fort Wainwright

The Fort Wainwright Barracks facade was developed with residential treatments at windows, base and fascia, focusing on providing sunlight into occupied spaces year round. A high volume space was provided at the entry lobby and waiting area, and is visible from adjoining lounge spaces, to increase the spatial variations in these occupied spaces.
The Barracks rooms are oriented to maximize direct exposure to daytime sunlight. The plan offsets in the Barracks create interesting non-linear corridors and the opportunity to provide views to the outside at each end. In the Barracks, the horizontal and vertical circulation works through a central core of each pod, rather than in an institutional linear fashion.
