
Eight Villages in Western Alaska
Each health clinic includes four exam rooms with provisions for telemedicine, dental exams, counseling, and eye exams. A special emergency room is provided with easy access from the exterior via a snowmachine ramp. Itinerant quarters which double as the staff lounge is provided. Administration is limited to a file room and a reception area that are located to supervise the entry and waiting area. A separate entrance is provided to allow privacy for counseling and for visiting doctors accessing the itinerant quarters.
The building is designed with simplicity and the arctic environment in mind. Floors are framed with engineered lumber, structural insulated panel walls and the roof is framed with pre-manufactured trusses. The building is exterior is clad with metal panels; vinyl windows are utilized through out for ease of maintenance and durability. The roof line and foundation of the building are simple in order to expedite the construction schedule. All plumbing is arranged around an accessible central chase to ease maintenance and protect from winter freeze up.
