Located on a south facing, gently sloping site, this facility at the University of Alaska Fairbanks provides controlled environments which simulate various arctic, subarctic, and tropical growing conditions year round. The design consists of two components: the greenhouse which includes the growth environments and the head house which contains the environmental control system. The greenhouse compartments are constructed of structural steel frames and glazing panels. The head house component is wood frame construction with exterior insulation finish system and consists of office / laboratory, growth chamber room, and mechanical support spaces. The greenhouse includes four separate greenhouse compartments.
