Fairbanks, Alaska
The Alaska State Court System desired a new facility in Fairbanks, Alaska, which would both satisfy the Court System's need for new space and would have a positive impact on the community of Fairbanks. Bettisworth North led a team of professionals in preparing a comprehensive planning effort which included development of current and future State of Alaska Courthouse and facility space needs, examining alternative development proposals, and preparing a set of recommendations regarding how these development goals and facility needs would be met.
In addition to courtrooms and associated support spaces, the new facility includes a three-level security system which defines public, semi-public, and secure spaces within the facility. Those areas which provide space for in-custody defendants are fully secure, and include sally port, adult and juvenile male and female lock down holding cells, control rooms, and secure corridor/elevator systems to trial courts.
